The major industrial sectors and policy initiatives shaping Telangana's industrial economy.
Telangana's industrial base is anchored by information technology (centred in Hyderabad's HITEC City), pharmaceuticals and life sciences (Hyderabad's "Genome Valley" cluster), and growing aerospace and defence manufacturing, alongside more traditional sectors like textiles and cement.
The Telangana State Industrial Project Approval and Self-Certification System (TS-iPASS), introduced after 2014, aimed to drastically simplify and speed up industrial approvals through self-certification and time-bound clearances, positioning Telangana as a relatively business-friendly state for new industrial investment.
Genome Valley, located near Hyderabad, is a dedicated life-sciences and biotechnology cluster, hosting research institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and biotech startups, reinforcing Hyderabad's position in India's pharmaceutical and life-sciences landscape.
National industrial policy concepts (License Raj, PLI schemes, Make in India) are covered in our UPSC Economy β Industry & Infrastructure notes; this page focuses specifically on Telangana's industrial landscape.
