The Governor, Chief Minister, and Council of Ministers β how Telangana's state government is structured.
The Governor of Telangana is the constitutional head of the state, appointed by the President of India for a term of 5 years (or until replaced), acting on the aid and advice of the state Council of Ministers in most matters. Following the 2014 bifurcation, Telangana initially shared a Governor with Andhra Pradesh for a transitional period before each state received its own.
The Chief Minister, usually the leader of the majority party/coalition in the Legislative Assembly, heads the real executive β the Council of Ministers β which is collectively responsible to the state Legislative Assembly, mirroring the relationship between the Union Council of Ministers and the Lok Sabha.
The Telangana Secretariat, located in Hyderabad, houses the administrative machinery supporting the Council of Ministers β organised into departments headed by Principal/Secretary-level IAS officers, who implement government policy across the state.
Questions on this topic test both constitutional provisions (which mirror the Union executive structure) and current, state-specific facts β such as who currently holds the offices of Governor and Chief Minister of Telangana.
