India's Union Executive β the President as constitutional head, and the Prime Minister-led Council of Ministers that actually governs.
The President is elected indirectly by an electoral college of elected MPs and MLAs (Art 54-55), and is India's nominal/constitutional executive head β real power lies with the Council of Ministers, which the President is bound to act on the aid and advice of (Art 74), except in narrow discretionary situations.
The Prime Minister is appointed by the President and is usually the leader of the majority party in the Lok Sabha; the Council of Ministers is collectively responsible to the Lok Sabha (Art 75). The Cabinet is the inner, decision-making core of the larger Council of Ministers, which also includes Ministers of State and Deputy Ministers.
APPSC tests the President's election process, the 'aid and advice' rule (Art 74), collective responsibility (Art 75(3)), and the distinction between Cabinet and the full Council of Ministers β this pairs directly with the state-level Governor and State Executive pages already on this site.
