The mineral and forest resources that underpin Andhra Pradesh's economy.
Andhra Pradesh has significant deposits of limestone (supporting a large cement industry), bauxite (found notably in the Eastern Ghats region, used for aluminium production), and barytes, of which AP is one of India's leading producers. The state also has deposits of mica, granite, and various other industrial minerals.
Forest cover in AP is concentrated mainly in the Eastern Ghats region and parts of the interior, supporting both timber resources and significant biodiversity. These forested areas are also home to several tribal communities, whose livelihoods are closely tied to forest resources.
Given its long coastline, AP has substantial marine fishery resources, alongside growing aquaculture activity. The coastline also supports salt production in certain areas and provides sites for port development supporting mineral and industrial exports.
Questions often test the specific mineral-region associations (e.g. bauxite with the Eastern Ghats, barytes production leadership) alongside the economic uses of these resources β worth cross-referencing with the Industry in AP topic.
