How AP is managing rapid urban growth and building a skilled workforce for its evolving economy.
Andhra Pradesh's urban population has grown steadily post-bifurcation, driven by decentralised growth around Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada-Guntur, and emerging capital-region development. Under the Centre's Smart Cities Mission, AP cities including Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, and Tirupati have received funding for area-based development, integrated command-and-control centres, and improved urban services β reflecting the state's push to decentralise growth across multiple urban nodes rather than a single dominant city.
AP's skill development strategy runs through the AP State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC), aligning training with industry demand across sectors like IT, manufacturing and agri-processing, alongside central schemes like PMKVY (Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana) implemented at the state level. These programmes aim to convert the state's demographic dividend into productive employment, particularly for youth in its industrial corridors.
APPSC tests which AP cities are covered under the Smart Cities Mission and the role of APSSDC β this connects directly to the AP Economy Overview and Industry in AP pages already on this site.
